FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Short, plain answers about what MyClipCloud does, what browsers allow, and how your data is handled.
Can I use MyClipCloud without an account?
Yes. Open myclipcloud.com (or /nearby) on two devices on the same Wi-Fi: they find each other automatically. Tap the other device, it taps Accept, and you can send text, photos and files straight between them — no sign-up, nothing saved. For a device on another network (for example a phone on mobile data), use the 6-digit code instead. Create a free account when you want sync across any network and a history.
Is MyClipCloud free?
Yes. Accounts, sync between your devices, history, Nearby sharing on the same Wi-Fi and the Chrome extension are all free. There are no paid plans.
How do I send a file from my phone to my PC without a cable?
Open myclipcloud.com/nearby on both the phone and the PC while they are on the same Wi-Fi. Tap the PC on the phone, accept on the PC, then pick the photo or file and tap Send. No app, account or cable is needed. If the devices are on different networks, use the 6-digit code instead. Step-by-step: send files from phone to PC.
Is an online clipboard safe to use?
It depends on the service. Check that it uses HTTPS, keeps your items private to your account, lets items expire and lets you delete them. MyClipCloud does all of this and encrypts items at rest on the server; it is not end-to-end encrypted, so as with any cloud service, avoid copying passwords, one-time codes or card numbers. MyClipCloud warns you before syncing text that looks like one.
What is the difference between a clipboard manager and a cloud clipboard?
A clipboard manager keeps a history of what you copy on one device. A cloud clipboard stores what you copy in your account so you can paste it on other devices. MyClipCloud is a cloud clipboard with a searchable history, so it covers both for the items you sync. See cloud clipboard vs local clipboard.
Does MyClipCloud sync everything I copy on my computer?
In the browser, only while a MyClipCloud tab is open. Everything you copy inside MyClipCloud is synced in every browser. In Chrome and Edge, text or a screenshot you copied in another app is also synced when you switch back to the MyClipCloud tab, after you allow clipboard access once. Firefox and Safari ask on every clipboard read, so there only copies made inside MyClipCloud sync, and Paste from device brings in the rest. No website can watch your clipboard while its tab is closed — for that, install the free MyClipCloud extension for Chrome, which syncs with no tab open. Automatic sync is on by default; you can pause it or turn it off in Privacy & data.
Is there a MyClipCloud browser extension?
Yes. MyClipCloud for Chrome is free in the Chrome Web Store, and Microsoft Edge can install it from there too. Once connected to your account, it sends text and images you copy anywhere on that computer to your MyClipCloud clipboard and puts text from your other devices on that computer's clipboard — with no MyClipCloud tab open, while the browser is running. It follows your sync and privacy settings, never sends text that looks like a password or code, and talks only to myclipcloud.com. There is no version for Safari, Firefox or phones; there, use the website.
Why can't a website paste into other apps for me automatically?
Browsers deliberately stop websites from changing your clipboard in the background or reading it silently. Only the visible, focused page may write to the clipboard, and reading needs your permission or a paste confirmation. This protects you from malicious pages. MyClipCloud works within those rules: it updates the clipboard when its tab is in front, and shows a Copy it button when a browser blocks access.
Is my clipboard content encrypted?
Content travels over HTTPS and is encrypted at rest on our server with authenticated encryption (XChaCha20-Poly1305). This is server-side encryption: the service holds the keys and can decrypt content to deliver it to your devices. It is not end-to-end encryption, and we do not claim that it is. Avoid syncing passwords, one-time codes or other secrets.
How long are items kept?
By default, items expire after 7 days. You can choose 1, 7 or 30 days, pin up to 50 items so they stay until you unpin them, and delete single items or your whole history at any time. Expired items are hidden immediately and removed from the server by a scheduled cleanup.
Do I need a Google account?
No. You can create an account with your email address and a password, or sign in with Google — whichever you prefer. If you use both with the same confirmed email, they open the same account.
Which browsers work?
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop, plus Chrome on Android and Safari on iPhone and iPad, are the intended targets. Clipboard permissions differ between them: for example, reading your device clipboard with Paste from device shows a permission prompt or a paste confirmation depending on the browser. See How it works for details.
Does it work in the background on my phone?
No. Mobile browsers pause pages that are not on screen, and no website can update your phone's clipboard in the background. Open MyClipCloud when you need the latest item; it catches up immediately when the page becomes visible.
What happens if I lose a device?
Sign in on another device, open Devices and remove the lost one. Its sessions end immediately and it can no longer read or receive your items. You can also sign out of every other session from Security.
Can other people see my clipboard?
No. Items are private to your account and delivered only to your own signed-in devices. You can choose to share a single item with another MyClipCloud user by entering their email address; it then appears in their account. Anyone can turn off receiving shared items in Privacy & data. There are no public share links, and administrators do not see clipboard content in the admin tools.
What can I sync today?
Text and links up to 100 KiB per item (about 100,000 characters), plus photos and files up to 25 MiB each: images, PDFs, Office and text documents, ZIP, audio and video. Programs and scripts are blocked, and every file's real type is checked against its name. Each account can store up to 1,000 items and 250 MiB.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. You can delete any item, clear your whole history, export your data as JSON, or delete your account from Profile. Account deletion permanently removes your devices, sessions and clipboard items. Note that text already copied onto a device's own clipboard stays there until that device overwrites it — no website can erase it remotely.
